Privacy Policy

CLIGN (“we,” “us,” or “our") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, store, and share information when you use the CLIGN platform (the “Service”), including data we receive through integrations with Google services.

1. Information we collect

We collect the following types of information:

  • Account information: name, email address, phone number, home address, and password when you register.
  • Profile information: school, major, expected graduation year, home and school time zones, and optional preferences such as school colors.
  • Academic content: syllabi, course schedules, deadlines, lecture recordings, transcripts, notes, flashcards, and quizzes you upload or generate.
  • Calendar and email data: with your permission, we access calendar and email information through Google Calendar and Gmail APIs to build your schedule and surface deadlines.
  • Usage data: device type, browser, IP address, and interactions with the Service, collected automatically to improve performance and security.

Providing a mobile phone number in your profile is not, by itself, consent to receive text messages. Recurring SMS notifications from CLIGN require a separate, optional opt-in, as described in Section 4 below.

2. How we use your information

We use your information to:

  • Provide, personalize, and improve the CLIGN Service.
  • Build your semester calendar, course list, and study plan from uploaded syllabi.
  • Generate transcripts, notes, flashcards, and quizzes from lecture recordings.
  • Sync with Google Calendar and Gmail when you authorize those integrations.
  • Send important account and product updates. These updates are sent by text message only if you have separately opted in to CLIGN SMS notifications.
  • Maintain security, prevent abuse, and comply with legal obligations.

3. Google Calendar integration and Limited Use

CLIGN connects to Google Calendar through the Google Calendar API only after you explicitly grant permission via Google's OAuth consent screen. We request the minimum scopes necessary to provide the Service.

What we access and how we use it. When you connect Google Calendar, CLIGN accesses your Google Calendar data — including your calendar list and your events — solely to provide the following user-facing features:

  • Displaying your Google Calendar events alongside your CLIGN schedule.
  • Two-way synchronization of your own events: events you create, update, or delete in CLIGN are reflected in your Google Calendar, and changes you make in Google Calendar are reflected in CLIGN.

CLIGN's use and transfer to any other app of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. Specifically:

  • We only use Google user data to provide or improve user-facing features of CLIGN (such as displaying and syncing your calendar).
  • We do not transfer Google user data to third parties except as necessary to provide or improve those features, to comply with applicable law, or as part of a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets with notice to you.
  • We do not use Google user data for serving advertisements, and we do not allow humans to read your Google data unless we have your affirmative agreement for specific messages, doing so is necessary for security purposes, or doing so is required to comply with applicable law.
  • We never sell your Google Calendar data, and we never transfer it to any third party for advertising or any purpose unrelated to providing the Service.

Disconnecting and deleting your data. You can disconnect Google Calendar at any time from Settings → Integrations, or revoke access from your Google account permissions page. When you disconnect:

  • Events that CLIGN created in your Google Calendar (courses, deadlines, sports, and other CLIGN events) are removed from Google Calendar.
  • Google Calendar data stored in CLIGN is removed from our systems, and CLIGN immediately stops accessing your Google account.

You may also delete your CLIGN account at any time, which deletes all associated data, including any data obtained from Google, within a reasonable time as described in Section 7.

4. SMS / Text Message Privacy

CLIGN offers optional text message (SMS) notifications. You are never required to receive text messages to create or use a CLIGN account, and SMS consent is never bundled with acceptance of our Terms of Service, our Privacy Policy, email consent, or phone-call consent. SMS consent is always a separate, optional choice.

Information we collect for SMS. When you choose to receive SMS messages from CLIGN, we may collect:

  • Your mobile phone number.
  • Your SMS opt-in status.
  • The date and time of your consent.
  • The source or method of your consent (for example, the form where you opted in).
  • Your SMS notification preferences.
  • Message delivery and status information.
  • Your opt-out status.
  • SMS interaction information, such as replies like STOP or HELP, where applicable.

How we use it. We use this information to provide CLIGN account notifications, calendar reminders, upcoming class reminders, assignment and deadline reminders, class schedule changes, athletic practice and game schedule changes, events added by coaches or teams, team and club event notifications, customer-care and account support messages, and other SMS services you have requested.

We do not sell or share your mobile information for marketing. Your mobile information will not be sold or shared with third parties for promotional or marketing purposes. SMS opt-in data and consent will not be sold, rented, or shared with third parties for their own promotional or marketing purposes. This restriction specifically includes:

  • Mobile phone numbers.
  • SMS opt-in records.
  • SMS consent status.
  • Messaging preferences.

We will not share your opt-in to an SMS campaign with any third party for purposes unrelated to providing the services of that campaign. We may share information, including SMS opt-in or consent status, with service providers that assist us in providing messaging services, such as messaging platforms, telecommunications carriers, and other vendors involved in delivering text messages. These service providers may use this information only as necessary to provide services to CLIGN, and never for their own marketing purposes.

Opting out. You may stop receiving CLIGN text messages at any time by replying STOP to any CLIGN message, or by turning SMS notifications off in Settings. After you opt out, you may receive a single confirmation message, and you will no longer receive recurring CLIGN SMS messages unless you opt in again. Opting out of SMS does not close your account or limit your use of CLIGN. Reply HELP for help, or contact us at chris@netfinity.net. Message frequency may vary. Standard message and data rates may apply. Wireless carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages.

5. How we share information

We do not sell your personal information. We only share data with service providers who help us operate CLIGN (such as cloud hosting and AI processing), and only under strict confidentiality and security obligations. We may also disclose information if required by law or to protect our rights and users.

These sharing categories exclude SMS opt-in data and consent. SMS opt-in data, SMS consent records, mobile phone numbers collected for SMS, and SMS notification preferences will not be shared with third parties for their own promotional or marketing purposes, and are shared only with service providers strictly as necessary to operate the CLIGN SMS service, as described in Section 4.

6. Data security

We use industry-standard security measures, including encryption in transit and at rest, Row Level Security in our database, and secure authentication. While we take strong steps to protect your data, no online service can guarantee absolute security.

7. Your rights and choices

You can:

  • Update or delete your profile information in Settings.
  • Revoke Google integrations at any time in Settings → Integrations.
  • Opt out of CLIGN text messages at any time by replying STOP or by turning SMS notifications off in Settings.
  • Request a copy of your data or ask us to delete your account by contacting support.

8. Data retention

We retain your information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the Service. If you delete your account, we will remove or anonymize your data within a reasonable time, except where retention is required by law.

Your notes, photos, audio recordings and transcripts are kept so you can keep studying from them. We do not delete them at the end of a term. They remain available until you delete them yourself, close your account, or close out the semester they belong to.

Closing out a semester is always your choice. When you do, that semester's classes, notes, recordings and related items are scheduled for permanent deletion 30 days later. During those 30 days nothing is removed and you can restore everything with one click, and we email you reminders before the deadline. After the 30 days the data is permanently deleted and cannot be recovered. Nothing outside that semester is affected.

9. Children's privacy

CLIGN is designed for college students. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe we have collected data from a child under 13, please contact us.

10. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by email or through the Service. Your continued use of CLIGN after changes take effect means you accept the revised policy.
